‘Adopt an Emoji’ Campaign Uses the World’s Latest Language to Save Endangered Mother Tongues

December 16, 2015 – Unicode Consortium wants to raise cash by asking people to ‘adopt a character.’ Tech lovers have been urged to adopt an emoji this Christmas as part of a drive to help the world’s endangered languages survive in the modern age.

The Unicode Consortium , a not-for-profit organisation which oversees emoji, wants people to “adopt a character” as part of its latest fundraising drive. It exists to help regulate the official introduction of new emoji, but the Consortium also wants to assist peoples whose languages face extinction…
